Good Day, Apologies for being delay in replying. Self was traveling hence couldn’t reply on time.
If you are shipping Lithium Batteries by ocean shipment shall meet the criteria of IMDG Code.
Depending on the UN Number assigned to your goods you need to check the special provisions applicable.

We are transporting goods under UN 3481 (li-ion contained in equipment). It meets special provision 188. What are the additional codes listed here: 230, 348, 957– are these additional provisions that need to be met as well or do they not apply to all shipments? Where can I find the published definitions of these codes? Our freight forwarder asked under which codes the goods will be shipped from this list– and from what I can tell, the relevant codes for our shipment are 188 & 230.
What is an example of UN3028 – BATTERIES, DRY, CONTAINING POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, SOLID
electric storage? Does clause SP304 exclude some batteries being consider DG?
And how to classify those AA alkaine batteries in retail store? Are those DG also?
Thanks
hi. am traveling, on the way to airport. will reply you tonight india time
Hi Alex,
UN 3028 BATTERIES, DRY, CONTAINING POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, SOLID electric : This entry can only be used for those batteries which are dry and no filled with water for activation. Special provision 304 states that UN 3028 can only be used for those batteries which are not filed with water. In case water is filled in it then shipper need to use UN 2795 BATTERIES, WET, FILLED WITH ALKALI electric storage.
SP 304 does not exclude any batteries to become non hazardous.
However AA size Alkaline batteries in retail stores are not considered as hazardous.

In short, 304 can be apply to car storage battery when not fill with water.
Any chance you can let me know what it looks like? perhaps a link to wiki or any source.
Thanks for taking time to reply while on road
304 is applicable to pot.hydroxide batteries. not applicable to lead acid batteries. car storage batteries are lead acid containing sulphuric acid.
i will look for a link and shareater.
regards
Well, you are a professional, thanks Shashi. Sometimes I feel difficult to interpret the exemption conditions in Special Provisions like 188.
Whether all the listed from 1-9 in A88 are required to meet or any one of them ?
Bagio,
You have written “A88” believe it is 188. We need to interpret special provision 188 by breaking it down because even if not subject to IMDG Code still there are some requirements of packaging and weight per package.. I had prepared a Presentation ( two years ago) I will locate it and update with latest rules and post same in this blog soonest, I think that may assist you and others looking for this info.
